It is worth mentioning that that’s not the first time for Albuquerque to attract investment in the field of solar production. On August 10, 2023, Maxeon, a joint venture subsidiary of TCL Zhonghuan, announced that it had chosen Albuquerque as its first location for expanding its PV manufacturing industry in the United States.

Maxeon originally planned to invest $1 billion to build a 3GW solar cell and module factory in Albuquerque. The factory will focus on designing and producing the latest generation of TOPCon cells and shingled solar modules, aiming to meet the growing demand for solar modules in the USA. The new factory was originally expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2024 and commence production in 2025. But according to the latest reports, the start of the project has been postponed to H2 of this year.
