According to the latest report released by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) in the United States, corporate investment in clean energy has reached unprecedented heights, setting a new record. Notably, tech giants are leading the way in solar energy applications.
The report reveals that as of the first quarter of 2024, U.S. companies have installed nearly 40GW of solar power facilities, with corporate energy storage capacity exceeding 1.8GWh.
Specifically, Meta Platforms tops the list with a solar installed capacity of 5.17GW, followed by Amazon (4.68GW) and Google (2.59GW). Apple and Walmart have installed capacities of 1.15GW and 860MW, respectively. The cumulative installed capacity of the top ten companies amounts to 16.8GW.
The report highlights that tech companies are the main driving force behind corporate PV procurement in the U.S., primarily to meet the growing demand for data centers and AI-related loads. Additionally, other companies are increasingly turning to renewable energy procurement to reduce their carbon footprints, save on energy costs, and decrease dependence on energy market fluctuations.
