Türkiye’s solar power capacity is expected to increase by 500% to reach 52.9 GW by 2035, according to the country’s National Energy Plan prepared based on the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry’s net-zero targets.
According to the plan, the country aims for solar power to obtain the highest share of total installed power capacity.
Türkiye’s total installed power of electricity, which was 95.9 GW at the end of 2020, is expected to reach 189.7 GW in 2035.
Selen İnal, Business Development Manager of TurSEFF at Stantec Turkey, said at a webinar hosted by Solarbe Global that the country’s growth of solar installation is beyond expectation, increasing from 188 MW in 2013 to 8,659 MW in 2022, with a great leap in each year.
The latest data from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows that the share of renewables in Türkiye’s installed power stood at 54% at the end of 2022. The ratio is expected to reach 64.7% in 2035.
”Türkiye attaches great importance to the development of renewable energy sources”, said the Ministry. “Increasing the use of domestic and renewable energy resources is among the main priorities.”
If solar energy reaches 52.9 GW capacity by 2035 as planned, it will become the source with the highest share in Türkiye’s total installed power of electricity, said Turkish media Daily Sabah.
