Trina Solar brings TOPCon cell efficiency to 26.58%

On November 20th, the National Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology of Trina Solar announced that its independently developed high-efficiency n-type double-sided i-TOPCon cell had a maximum efficiency of 26.58%, certified by the testing laboratory under the Hamelin Institute of Solar Energy (ISFH) in Germany, once again setting a new world record for TOPCon solar cell efficiency. This is also the 28th time Trina Solar has set and broken the world record.

Just one month after setting the world record for the 27th time, Trina Solar has once again achieved a technological breakthrough. In addition to using Trina Solar’s innovative 210×182mm2 large-area rectangular industrial grade phosphorus doped Czochralski n-type silicon wafer substrate and excellent quantum tunneling passivation contact technology, this new achievement focuses on improving emitter passivation technology, device optical trap design, and ultra-fine line printing technology, achieving another improvement in cell optical and electrical performance.

“We are delighted to announce the latest research and development achievements of our technical team, which have been certified by the authoritative institution ISFH CalTech in Germany. The highest efficiency of large-scale and efficient n-type i-TOPCon cells has reached 26.58%,” said Gao Jifan, Chairman and CEO of Trina Solar and Director of the National Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology. “This is not only the first time that the efficiency of n-type TOPCon cells has exceeded 26%, but also the speed of efficiency improvement is very fast. Trina Solar will continue to increase its research and development efforts on TOPCon cells and components, continuously improve its comprehensive competitive advantage, strengthen intellectual property protection, and firmly grasp advanced technology in our own hands.”

In October of this year, Trina Solar was the first to set the TOPCon world record for 25.90% monocrystalline silicon, breaking Fraunhofer’s 7-year TOPCon world record and opening up the TOPCon cell efficiency ceiling. In just one month, Trina Solar has once again pushed its efficiency record to 26.58%. The rapid efficiency improvement marks the strong technological potential of TOPCon solar cells and further consolidates Trina Solar’s competitive advantage in TOPCon technology.
