Perovskite solar cells face three main challenges in commercialization: stability, large-scale efficiency, and mass production. Currently, most perovskite production lines are at the 100 MW level, with leading companies achieving module efficiencies of 18%.
Here is an overview of 10 perovskite solar cell manufacturers in China:
1. GCL Optoelectronics
Kunshan GCL Optoelectronics Materials Co., Ltd. was established in December 2019. On November 23, 2023, GCL Optoelectronics announced that its 1m x 2m perovskite single-junction module achieved a conversion efficiency of 18.04%, and its 279mm x 370mm tandem module surpassed an efficiency of 26.17%. The company plans to complete and start production at a gigawatt-level perovskite production base by 2024-2025.
2. Renshine Solar
Renshine Solar was founded at the end of 2021. In September 2023, Renshine Solar achieved a certified conversion efficiency of 19.42% on a 30cm x 40cm perovskite solar module, compatible with their 150 MW production line, and passed IEC61215 reliability tests.
3. UtmoLight
UtmoLight began perovskite technology research in 2018 and started construction of the world’s first gigawatt-level perovskite PV module and BIPV product production line in 2023. The facility is expected to come online in 2024. In December 2023, the company reported that its large-area module achieved a steady-state efficiency of 19.5%.
4. Jolywood
Established in 2008, Jolywood specializes in solar module backsheets, cells and modules, and distributed system applications, etc. They hold a patent for a perovskite n-type TOPCon perovskite tandem solar cell, enhancing light absorption and conversion efficiency.
5. Fab Solar
Fab Solar focuses on roll-to-roll flexible large-area perovskite thin-film solar cells. They started pre-research in 2019 and, by June 2022, completed the industry’s first 10 MW roll-to-roll flexible perovskite thin-film cell pilot line.
6. Da Zheng Micro-Nano Technology
Da Zheng Micro-Nano Technology, founded in 2018, specializes in new perovskite thin-film solar cell modules and related precision equipment. They are building a fully automated 100 MW-level flexible perovskite solar cell production line with a CNY 300 million investment.
7. Hiking PV
Founded in 2019, Hiking PV focuses on high-efficiency tandem solar cells. In May 2023, they began construction on a 7 GW high-efficiency perovskite tandem solar cell production facility, aiming for completion by December 2025.
8. Mellow Energy
Established in August 2022, Mellow Energy focuses on the research and industrialization of perovskite solar cells. They are currently setting up a 100 MW production line and a gigawatt-level production base in Zhuhai.
9. Infi-Solar
Founded in November 2022, Infi-Solar received angel round financing in June 2023, the largest in the perovskite field. In February 2023, Infi-Solar reached a conversion efficiency of 24.67% with a 100.53mm² perovskite solar cell. The company aims to finish constructing a pilot production line by Q3 2023 and begin mass production of large-scale cell modules.
10. Microquanta Semiconductor
Founded in 2015, Microquanta Semiconductor is a leading perovskite technology company with over 200 patents. They built the world’s first commercial MW-level utility-scale PV project using perovskite solar modules.
