Sharp Electronics Announces Exit from European PV Market Due to Intensifying Competition

On February 6th, Sharp Electronics announced that due to the challenging environment in the European photovoltaic (PV) market, the company has decided to officially withdraw from the market on March 31st, 2025, by closing its European solar energy subsidiary, Sharp Energy Solutions – SESE, ending a 30-year business operation.

Prior to this, the company’s PV business unit will continue to handle existing projects, orders, and final deliveries of PV modules and related products.

It is reported that SESE was primarily responsible for solar project development, order execution, and product supply in the European market, covering residential, commercial, and industrial solar solutions. Its business history dates back to the 1990s, marking an important initiative by Sharp in its early expansion into the renewable energy sector.

Sharp Electronics stated that from April 1st, 2025, the company will continue to provide customer service. All product and power output guarantees will remain valid during the warranty period and will be managed and supported by Sharp Electronics GmbH. Additionally, this exit will not affect Sharp’s other businesses in Europe or its global solar energy business.
