The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has unveiled a comprehensive policy agenda aimed at making the United States a global leader in solar energy and energy storage, targeting President Trump and the 119th Congress.
The agenda outlines strategies to enhance energy independence and security, with a focus on reducing dependence on Chinese solar and storage components and expanding domestic manufacturing. During President Trump’s first term, the US solar industry grew by 128%, with installed capacity reaching 100 gigawatts (GW), laying the foundation for today’s 220 GW grid capacity and over 100 manufacturing facilities in 43 states.
Key objectives of the SEIA agenda include promoting US solar manufacturing, meeting the growing energy demands of industries such as data centers and artificial intelligence, reducing regulatory barriers, supporting energy freedom, protecting private property rights, and creating jobs in America’s heartland. Through these measures, SEIA aims to sustain the rapid growth momentum of the US solar industry and consolidate its position as a top global market.
“Solar power is critical to meeting America’s growing electricity needs and powering manufacturing, data centers, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, President and CEO of SEIA. “This is a roadmap for the Trump Administration and Congress to leverage robust federal solar and storage policies and fulfill their vision of leading the US energy sector. Implementing this agenda will put the US in control of the solar supply chain and ensure that American communities benefit from solar and storage jobs and economic growth.”
