China’s Ministry of Commerce started a roundtable meeting with US – funded enterprises on April 6th. Representatives from over 20 US – funded enterprises such as Tesla, GE Healthcare, and Medtronic attended the meeting.

Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy Representative for International Trade Negotiations emphasized that in recent days, the United States has announced the imposition of indiscriminate tariffs on all trading partners, including China, under various pretexts. This has seriously undermined the rules – based multilateral trading system and seriously infringed upon the legitimate rights and interests of various countries. The Chinese government strongly condemns and firmly opposes this and has taken decisive countermeasures. China’s countermeasures are not only aimed at firmly safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, including US – funded enterprises, but also at urging the United States to return to the correct path of the multilateral trading system. The root cause of the tariff issue lies with the United States. It is hoped that US – funded enterprises will trace the source, clarify the cause – and – effect relationship, make rational voices, and take pragmatic actions to jointly maintain the stability of the global industrial and supply chains and promote win – win cooperation.
The representatives of the participating enterprises said that the meeting sent positive signals. They will report the situation to their headquarters in a timely manner.
At the meeting, the enterprise representatives raised the problems they encountered in their current investment and operation, and the relevant department heads of the Ministry of Commerce responded to them one by one on the spot.
