Industry giant Longi Solar has put their annual 29 GW of high-efficiency mono crystalline cell project in Shaanxi Province into production yesterday, which were produced with HPBC high-efficiency cell technology independently developed by the company.
It took one and a half years to finish the project from signing to completion, setting the new record for the construction speed of the company.
“The completion is only the first step of a long march. We will continue to improve, contribute to output, and achieve full production as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we will continue to increase its technological research and development efforts, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, enhance the technological innovation capabilities, and continuously improve and maintain market competitiveness,” said Zhong Baoshen, chairman of Longi Solar.
HPBC refers to composite passivation back contact cell, which is a new generation of high-efficiency cell technology characterized by no busbar on the front. HPBC cell technology is an epoch-making cell technology developed by Longi’s cell scientist team for many years and ultimately commercialized. It is also a disruptive cell technology after PERC, and is by far the most efficient cell in mass production in the industry.
The mass production efficiency of HPBC cell standard version exceeded 25%, and the efficiency of PRO version superimposed with hydrogen passivation technology can exceed 25.3%. This technology can greatly improve the light absorption and photoelectric conversion capabilities of the cell through process adjustment of the internal structure of the cell, effectively increasing the output power of the module.
Empirical evidence shows that under the same location and weak light irradiation conditions, the Hi-MO 6 module equipped with HPBC technology improves power generation performance by 6% to 10% compared to traditional modules, and significantly improves power generation efficiency.
Previously, the first phase of the cell project had been put into production in September 2022, and the overall market supply was in shortage, especially in the residential rooftop scenario. The advanced mass production of the second and third phases of the project is an important measure taken by Longi to better lock the technology and cost advantages through leading production capacity.
Building leading production capacity cannot be separated from investment in technological research and development. From 2012 to the first half of 2022, Longi has invested more than RMB 16 billion in research and development, ranking first in the solar industry. As of June 30, 2022, Longi has obtained a total of 1,808 patents.
