Juniper Signs 1GW Solar Module Deal with First Solar

Juniper Green Energy has signed an agreement with First Solar to procure 1GW of its Series 7 FT1 cadmium telluride thin-film solar panels.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, Juniper Green Energy stated that it plans to deploy these modules in projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the coming fiscal year.

As part of the agreement, First Solar will deliver the photovoltaic modules from its factory in Chennai, India, within two years.

Juniper emphasized that this deal is significant in reducing the company’s reliance on the Chinese supply chain. The company stressed that the procured modules are genuinely domestically produced and do not rely on China’s crystalline silicon supply chain, which grants it more autonomy and stability in advancing energy projects in the Indian market. The Series 7 FT1 modules have been included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) approved by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, fully comply with Domestic Content Requirements (DCR), and have successfully passed certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These modules, designed specifically for the Indian ground-mounted photovoltaic market, can effectively optimize system balance of systems (BOS) costs, significantly reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for solar projects, and thereby enhance overall project benefits and competitiveness.

Juniper, a private renewable energy producer affiliated with the AT Group, manages a global portfolio worth $2.5 billion across clean energy, real estate, and the hotel industry. The company has over 1GW of operational projects, 3GW of projects under construction, and nearly 6GW of projects in development, including solar, wind, and hybrid energy.
