Indian photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer Waaree Energies has officially started production at its 5.4GW solar cell “superfactory” in Chikhli, Gujarat. This facility is now the largest solar cell production base in the country.

Waaree Energies rolled out the Chikhli plant in two phases, adopting both PERC and TOPCon technologies. In January this year, the company put 1.4GW of monocrystalline PERC capacity into operation. In February, Amit Paithankar, the company’s CEO, announced that the remaining 4GW would be used for TOPCon cell production.
In addition to the 5.4GW cell capacity, Waaree’s total PV module production capacity currently stands at 15GW, which includes 1.3GW from Indosolar and 1.6GW from a facility in Texas, USA.
