Europe Remains Largest PV Module Export Market, but Share Declines, says CPIA

From January to October 2024, China’s total exports of photovoltaic products (silicon wafers, cells, and modules) amounted to approximately $28.14 billion, a year-on-year decrease of about 34.5%. In October, exports rose 7.4% month-on-month, maintaining an overall trend of “decreasing prices and increasing quantities”, said Wang Bohua, the Honorary Chairman at the annual conference of China’s Photovoltaic Industry Association held in Yibin, Sichuan Province on December 5.

In terms of export product structure, the proportion of silicon wafer and cell exports declined, while the proportion of module exports increased. After a decline in the third quarter, silicon wafer, cell, and module exports rebounded in October. India, Turkey, and Cambodia are the top three battery export markets, with exports to India remaining high.

Europe remains the largest export market for PV modules, but its market share has significantly declined. Besides Europe, South Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East account for larger market shares. The diversification trend in the module export market is evident, with the “other” markets outside the top ten accounting for more than one-third of the share, which includes numerous emerging markets.
