CATL to Establish Fourth Battery Factory in Europe

At the Davos Forum this week, Pan Jian, Co-Chairman of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), indicated that the company expects to collaborate with another European automaker to open a new battery factory.

This will be CATL’s fourth battery factory in Europe.

It is understood that the first factory in Germany has a planned capacity of 14GWh.

The factory in Hungary, with a planned annual capacity of up to 100GWh, is currently undergoing facility installation and is expected to commence production in the second half of 2025.

In December 2024, CATL and the Stellantis Group jointly announced the establishment of a 50-50 joint venture to build a large battery factory in Zaragoza, Spain, with an investment of up to €4.1 billion. The factory is scheduled to start production by the end of 2026, with a planned annual capacity of 50GWh.
