Canadian Solar held a ceremony for its TOPCon cell mass production base in Suqian City, Jiangsu Province on April 11 to commemorate the milestone. Chen Zhongwei, Secretary of the Suqian Municipal Party Committee and Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, attended the ceremony.
The project is the company’s first TOPCon cell project across the world, an important part of Suqian’s efforts to build a photovoltaic industry ecosystem, which injects strong momentum into the city to build a “Photovoltaic City”. The Suqian base has become the company’s largest, most technologically advanced manufacturing base with highest revenue.
The project, officially signed and settled in September 2020, is a major industrial project in the city and the province. It is divided into two areas to construct 10 GW of modules and 10 GW of cells. After comprehensive completion and operation, the annual sales may exceed RMB 23 billion yuan.
Shawn Qu said in his speech at the ceremony that “this year is a crucial year for the incremental expansion of Canadian Solar’s cell production. The Suqian cell project has taken the lead and become the first step to realize the group’s target of 30 GW TOPCon cell capacity within the year”.
By the first quarter of 2024, the production capacity of Canadian Solar’s silicon rod, wafers, cells, and modules will reach 50 GW, 50 GW, 60 GW, and 75 GW, respectively.
All new production capacity added by the company in 2023 and 2024 will adopt the latest N-type technology to meet the global customer demand for high-quality modules from Canadian Solar, and continue to contribute to the further improvement of the company’s business performance and profitability.
