On November 30, the groundbreaking ceremony of Mingyang Smart Energy’s 5 GW heterojunction (HJT) solar cell manufacturing plant was held in Yancheng Economic and Technological Development Zone.
In August, Mingyang Smart Energy, a Chinese company known for its wind turbines, released the semi-annual report of 2021. The report shows that the company has started the construction of HJT solar cell project with 5 GW annual output and 5 GW HJT solar module project.
Mingyang Smart Energy believes that the next generation HJT solar cell technology has multiple advantages, like higher conversion efficiency, lower degradation rate, low temperature performance and less processes. It also has great cost reduction potential.
In addition, the production equipment of HJT is different from the traditional solar cell production equipment. Therefore, newcomers are on the same starting line with traditional solar cell manufacturers.
HJT technology has been verified in the laboratory for more than 20 years. With the expiration of HJT patents, domestic equipment manufacturing, cost reduction of equipment and auxiliary materials and other factors, mass production of HJT cells and modules is becoming reality.
HJT technology is expected to occupy a considerable market share in the near future by continuously reducing cost and improving conversion efficiency.
