Filling the void: China’s first BIPV standard released

On December 17th, the first BIPV standard in China was officially released on the 2021 Seminar on High Quality Development of Distributed Solar Under the “Duel Carbon” Goal held in Beijing. Experts predict that the BIPV industry will experience explosive growth by 2023.

With the release of a series of supporting policies, China’s solar PV industry has entered a period of rapid development.

Sun Yaowei, Chairman of the Energy Investment Committee of the China Investment Association, said that by the end of October, the total installed capacity of renewable energy in China had exceeded 1,000 GW, with 280 GW of solar PV. The total installed capacity and the newly installed capacity each year have ranked first in the world for many years, most of them are from distributed projects.

The Action Plan for Carbon Dioxide Peaking Before 2030 issued by the State Council proposes to spread the application of renewable energy in buildings and BIPV.

Experts attending the seminar generally believed that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, distributed solar should be used in a wider scope, in more scenarios and at a higher level for the new energy industry to stride forward.

Zhu Dongqing, Secretary General of China Building Waterproof Association, said: “rooftops should be the best application scenario for distributed solar projects. We look forward to using these technologies to turn our buildings from energy consuming to energy-saving, and then to energy-generating.”

At the seminar, the first BIPV standard in China–Technical Specification for Solar Module Rooftop Engineering was released.

Li Xinfu, Chairman of Suntellite, a solar project developer, said that the standard is not only provides technical support for distributed solar development, but also pushes forward the technological progress, industrial upgrading and quality improvement of BIPV in China.
