China has built the world’s largest charging facility network, according to the latest data of China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA), as of September, the number of charging infrastructure across the nation had reached 2.223 million units, a year-on-year increase of 56.8%.


The data revealed that 237,000 public charging piles were added in the first nine months of the year, with an increase of 164.5% year-on-year. By the end of September, a total of 1.044 million units had been built, a year-on-year increase of 72.3%.

Since the market penetration of electric vehicles has exceeded 10%, with policy support and joint efforts of various parties, by the end of September, the country had built 1.024 million private charging piles with cars, with an increase of 178.5% year-on-year.


Qin Lihong, co-founder of Chinese multinational automobile manufacturer NIO, introduced that as of October 20, the company had built 546 power exchange stations in China.

Since the second half of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Energy Administration have jointly carried out the pilot application of new energy vehicle power exchange mode nationwide. Driven by relevant policies, the number of power exchange stations in China has increased rapidly, from 555 at the end of 2020 to 890 at the end of September this year.
