The National Energy Administration (NEA) of China recently issued a notice that in 2021, the proportion of wind and solar power generation will reach 11% of the total electricity consumption. The proportion should continue to increase to ensure that non fossil energy takes up around 20% of the total primary energy consumption in 2025.
2021 is the first year of grid price parity for wind and solar power. China proposed that by 2030, non fossil energy will account for about 25% of primary energy consumption, and the total installed capacity of wind and solar power will reach more than 1.2 billion kilowatts.
“The boundary conditions for the development of wind and solar power generation in China have undergone profound changes. It is necessary to introduce new annual policies and improve the development mechanism to give the industry clearer expectations, and promote the large-scale and high-quality advancement of wind and solar power,” said a representative from the NEA.
The notice specifies that the budget of subsidy for domestic solar projects this year is 500 million yuan. Qualified domestic solar projects are encouraged to be equipped with energy storage equipment on the premise that safety is ensured. The notice also urges provincial energy authorities to optimize the business environment for wind and solar power projects to develop.
Data shows that by the end of 2020, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China has reached 934 million kilowatts, with a year-on-year growth of about 17.5%. Among them, the installed capacity of wind power is 281 million kilowatts and that of solar PV power is 253 million kilowatts.
