Denmark Surpasses 4GW of Solar Installed Capacity

Denmark has surpassed the 4GW milestone for installed solar capacity, according to recent revelations by Dansk Solcelleforing, the Danish Solar Industry Association.

In 2024, Denmark achieved substantial growth in the solar sector, with new installations reaching 545MW. According to Dansk Solcelleforing’s data, the 545MW deployed in 2024 represents an increase compared to 378MW in 2023, but is still less than the over 1GW added in 2022. These new additions have pushed Denmark’s total installed solar capacity beyond the 4GW mark.

Among the 545MW added in 2024, projects larger than 1MW dominated, contributing a total of 356MW of new solar capacity. Additionally, private systems under 15kW contributed 74MW of growth, while commercial and industrial solar installations under 1MW increased by 115MW.

The association estimates that Denmark will add 750MW of installed capacity in 2025 and reach 1GW of new additions in 2026. This forecast is based on ambitious targets set by the Danish parliament and regulatory changes that facilitate solar deployment, such as reduced grid connection and self-consumption tariffs.
