Hanwha Qcells Secures $1.45B DOE Loan for Solar Plant Expansion in Georgia

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has officially provided Hanwha Qcells with a $1.45 billion loan to support the completion of the company’s solar manufacturing facility in Cartersville, Georgia.

The plant is planned to produce silicon ingots, wafers, cells, and modules, with a capacity of several gigawatts. Once fully operational, the facility will increase Qcells’ total production capacity in Georgia to 8.4GW, equivalent to the production of approximately 46,000 photovoltaic modules per day.

The conditional commitment loan for the project, announced by the Loan Programs Office (LPO) of the DOE in August 2024, has now been officially finalized.
