Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southeast Africa, with a land area of 390,000 square kilometers. It takes manufacturing, agriculture, and mining as its three major economic pillars. However, in terms of electricity supply, Zimbabwe heavily relies on hydropower as a source of electricity, leading to frequent power shortages and blackouts in towns.

Therefore, in 2019, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe announced that, with the support of the United Arab Emirates, the country planned to deploy a 2 GW of solar energy portfolio to address this issue.

Founded on December 19, 2014, CEEC is a joint stock limited company jointly sponsored and established by China Energy Engineering Group, a central enterprise under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Electric Power Planning Institute Co., Ltd. It was listed in Hong Kong in December 2015 and listed on the main board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in September 2021.

Since its establishment, CEEC has continued to provide systematic, integrated, full cycle, and package development plans and services for industries such as energy, electricity, and infrastructure in China and even the world. Its main business covers a complete industrial chain integrating traditional energy, new energy, and comprehensive intelligent energy, water conservancy, ecological and environmental protection, technical services, equipment manufacturing, and building materials. Its business covers more than 140 countries and regions around the world.
