210mm i-TOPCon cell rolled off at Trina Solar’s 8GW fab

Trina Solar said last Friday that its 8 GW factory to produce 210mm n-type i-TOPCon solar cells is now in full swing. The rectangular 210R solar cells produced will be used on Trina Solar’s Vertex n-type 595W module.

The launch of the factory will enhance the brand’s vertically integrated production capacity while ensuring the delivery of its n-type products, said Trina Solar.

The factory, located in Suqian, a city in China’s Jiangsu province, has a construction area of about 70,000 square meters. It took less than half a year for Trina Solar to complete the construction of the factory since the sod was turned on July 20th, 2022.

The Vertex n-type 595W module, incorporating the rectangular 210R cells, is compatible with 104-meter-long tracker arrays. The well-designed sizes will allow the installation of 6 to 12 more modules in the same area compared to 72-cell and 78-cell modules.

It is the perfect partner for tracking systems, further reducing BOS costs, said Trina Solar.

The manufacturer started its research and development of n-type solar cell technologies in 2015. In 2019, the company delivered 500 MW of i-TOPCon modules to two projects in Tongchuan and Changzhi.

Two years later, Trina Solar set up a 500 MW pilot production line for n-type i-TOPCon solar cells based on 210mm wafers.

It is expected that the production capacity of its 210mm n-type modules will reach 30 GW in 2023.
