Xinjiang kicks off construction of 6 GW solar portfolio

The portfolio includes a 2 GW solar plant in Bachu County, a 2 GW solar plant in Shache County, and another 2 GW in Shule County.

The Bachu County project will be developed by Guangdong No.2 Hydropower Engineering Company as an industrial aid to Xinjiang. Once completed, the solar plant will generate 3 TWh clean power annually.

The developer aims to install 20 GW solar power plants in Xinjiang and create over 20,000 jobs in the region.

The 2 GW project in Shache County will be developed by Guangdong Energy Group. The project will be constructed in three phases with a total investment of approximately RMB 12.8 billion. It is expected to complete and connect to the grid in 2024.

Shenzhen Energy North Holdings will be responsible for the construction of the Shule County project. Once completed, the project will be able to generate about 3.1 TWh clean power per year and create over 150 local jobs.

A total of 10 GW renewable energy projects have been planned in Kashgar Prefecture this year. By the end of 2022, 3 GW of generation capacity will be connected to the power grid.

The Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Autonomous Region revealed at the end of September that the region has kicked start the construction of over 40 GW renewable energy projects in the first seven months of 2022.

The proportion of renewable energy generation capacity has reached 19.2% in the region.
