For the first time in history, China’s RE generates over 1 trillion kWh annually

According to data from the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China, power generated from renewable energy has reached 1035.57 billion kWh in the first eleven months of 2021, breaking through 1 trillion kWh for the first time in the year. With a year-on-year increase of 32.97%, renewable energy can now satisfy 13.8% of the society’s power needs.

The amount of power generated is basically equivalent to the domestic power consumption of urban and rural residents in the same period.

From January to November, the power output of wind, solar and biomass have reached 586.67 billion kWh, 300.9 billion kWh and 148 billion kWh respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 40.8%, 24.3% and 23.4%.

Progress has also been made in renewable energy consumption, with wind and solar PV utilization rates reaching 96.9% and 97.9%.

China’s total installed capacity of wind and solar ranks the top in the world. The installed capacity of offshore wind also gained global top spot this year.

In 2022, the NEA will focus on developing wind and solar power projects close to power consumers in the eastern, central and southern parts of China, while pushing forward offshore wind installations in clusters, utility-scale wind and solar PV installations in the Three Norths regions, and pay close attention to the construction of wind and solar farms in deserts.
