The Ibri II 607 MW solar PV power plant in Oman has successfully connected to the grid this month, with 490 MW of TOPCon bifacial modules supplied by Jolywood. This project is currently the world’s largest ground-mounted plant with TOPCon modules and the largest ground-mounted solar farm in Oman.
Ibri II 607 MW solar PV power plant
The project covers an area of 1,154 hectares and is located in Ibri, Oman. The construction cost about US$400 million. It can generate more than 1598GW/h per year to meet the electricity demand of about 33,000 local households and reduce 800,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
The project was developed by ACWA Power, a leading energy developer in Saudi Arabia. The Company pays particular attention to the application of the latest technical routes, requiring the maximum reduction of LCOE. It also puts forward high demands for the reliability of the equipment in Oman’s harsh environment with sand storms, wind erosion, and large temperature differences.
After much deliberation, ACWA Power decided to choose 490 MW N-type bifacial double-glass module from Jolywood for the project.
Higher yield
The Niwa series modules based on TOPCon technology have a bifacial gain of over 80%.
Third-party certification agencies have tested power output of multiple different modules in a variety of terrains and environments. Results prove that the power gain of Niwa bifacial modules can reach more than 16% in deserts, exploiting the Niwa series’ bifacial gain advantage to the fullest.
Reliable operation
The project is located in a desert of the Middle East, with complex terrain and frequent sandstorms. The average temperature is above 40℃, posting challenges to the construction of the project and the quality of modules.
The temperature coefficient of Niwa series bifacial double-glass modules is as low as -0.32%/W, effectively reducing the output loss and risk caused by high temperature. The modules can operate normally even if the actual temperature reaches 70℃ or higher, which perfectly solves power output problems in extreme desert climates.
30-year warranty
Jolywood cooperates with MUNICH RE GROUP of Germany to provide 12-year product and material warranty and 30-year power linearity warranty.
Dr. Zhifeng Liu, Vice President of Jolywood, said: “The construction progress of the project has been severely affected due to the pandemic. The company has made concerted efforts to overcome difficulties and delivered the modules in accordance with the contract, while providing professional technical services for the project.”
As one of the world’s first solar manufacturers with TOPCon mass production capacity, Jolywood has expertise in N-type technology, but also has a wealth of empirical cases and project experience in TOPCon projects globally.
As of the third quarter of 2021, Jolywood has shipped over 5GW of TOPCon modules worldwide, over 1 GW of which has gone to the Middle East, accounting for more than 10% of the market.
